Oh, how I hate you lay/lie.

I'm not a stupid person. I am not unaware of various and sundry grammatical eccentricities in English, but I absolutely cannot master the past tense of lay/lie. I've had it explained to me a myriad of different ways, yet I simply cannot grasp it.

It makes it entirely too difficult to write porn.

how hard is it to remember that people are liars and thus remember that you use lie when talking about people or other movey/breathy type things (dogs, cats, giant sloths)? that's eeeeasy. for me anyway. but i think everyone is lying to me all the time so it would be. ::is paranoid::

I feel your pain! I'm a stickler for proper grammar, but lay/lie thwarts me at every turn. Although, I usually end up on thesaurus.com just to avoid it...
