Oh, how I hate you lay/lie.

I'm not a stupid person. I am not unaware of various and sundry grammatical eccentricities in English, but I absolutely cannot master the past tense of lay/lie. I've had it explained to me a myriad of different ways, yet I simply cannot grasp it.

It makes it entirely too difficult to write porn.
