By any chance, are they Right Fit Jeans from Lane Bryant? Because mine had a weird chemical smell until I washed them several times, and judging from conversations at fatshionista it was a widespread problem. Supposedly it's been fixed in recent months, but I remain skeptical.
Yep. I have no idea why, but the Right Fit jeans have an odor that requires several washings to go away. (Maybe it's the spandex or whatever they use for stretch?)
From my own experience and conversations at fatshionista, you can't shortcut by using fabric softener or anything; you just have to wash/dry the jeans several times to get the smell out. I think mine needed four or five washes. For what it's worth, I wore them between washings and nobody around me noticed the smell, so I think you're fine.
I came upon this while doing a google search. Thanks for the advice. I've got a jacket (not from LB) that has the same odor, and it's been killing me. I also picked up some right fit jeans today (the capris have no odor, but the jeans do...and of course I didn't notice until I got home). I'll definitely wash the hell out of them.
