Percy/Oliver Fic Carnival.
Despite the best efforts of Barnes & Noble, 'cool' kids, and Hollywood, there actually is a marked difference between science fiction and fantasy. Science fiction is all about science; it's the future and robots and dystopic regimes. Fantasy is, well, fantasy. It's all fairies and elves and vaguely mediaeval settings. And, frankly, never the twain shall meet.
What brought this on? you might ask. Well, I signed up to take part in the P/O Fic Carnival (the peanut gallery can now shut the hell up) and the scenario I was given is that aliens have attacked Hogwarts.
The fuck?
The whole logic behind the scenario is, I swear to god, 'magic and wizards and dragons exists, why not aliens?' Does no one a) understand the break between SF and fantasy and b) have any respect for basic logic structures?
Anyway, so now I have to somehow figure out how to work aliens into the Potterverse. I guess all those years watching The X-Files won't be wasted now.

I've been pondering the CSI AU Caroline tossed at me last night (Nick doesn't leave the force, but does leave Texas. Greg stays in San Francisco. They meet). I keep getting flashes of scenes, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to do something with it, but I need more character background before I can begin. Are there any good sites with that info?

The big things we know about Nick: he was molested by a babysitter at age 9 and the only person he's ever told was Catherine (whatever); he's the youngest of seven kids, I believe; his father is a Texas Supreme Court Justice, and his mother is a public defender. He went to either Rice or Texas A&M, depending on whether you prefer season one canon or the web site info; he served as a cop on the Houston PD for three years before he transferred to the crime lab; he's big on football, video games, and geeky science stuff. He bought Catherine's daughter a chemistry set for her birthday one year (the same set that Grissom bought her).
Greg is, I believe, an only child. He grew up in San Fran, went to Berkeley and interned in the San Francisco crime lab for a couple years. He surfs and listens to Marilyn Manson and collects coins, thanks to his grandfather. He does use pet names in canon (baby, specifically) with his S.O., and he isn't shy about saying 'I love you'.
That's about all I can come up with off the top of my head. I don't know of any sites that do decent bios, but maybe somebody else does. This is me, not encouraging you to write an AU. At all.
HP Fic: I am so sorry. So, so sorry. I feel somehow responsible for dragging you into the big sci-fi vs. fantasy crossover from hell. I don't know what I got yet. Now I'm scared to check my e-mail.
I think it was Dallas, actually. That's what the site says, anyway.
Sorry, Lele, but I'm afraid I must have Ru's back on this one. ;-)
But NO ALIENS at Hogwarts! I beg you. If the challenge is that stupid, it's not worth doing. You shouldn't feel bad.
Second, I'm not going to mesh scifi/fantasy. There will be creatures who *appear* to be Greys, but they're really just some form of fantastic creature.
Third, except for Mulder, boys are never just straight. Heh.
That merits a Justin response. I think you're now officially as crazy in a different way. I'm going on record.
