Boy, I suck at updating

I can't believe I got sick again a couple of weeks ago. It's like I went for years without a sniffle, then one bout of untreated bronchitis two and a half years ago and it's like I never completely got well. Which, I guess, is a distinct possibility. What can I say? It's the plight of the American uninsured.

Fuckers.

I'm flirting with Olympic burnout. That first week with all the swimming and gymnastics really takes it out of a girl. I'm not such a big fan of the track & field events, so the final week is a little better, but there's still diving and rhythmic gymnastics...

Work has been kicking my ass in a completely mediaeval way lately. I started in a new department at the beginning of the month with minimal training and a boatload of backlogged work. I've been doing my best, but last week I totally hit the wall. I don't know what spurred it, but by like 4pm I was at the end of my rope and had to fucking struggle not to be that guy and cry at work.

That's not to say I didn't start crying the moment I got in my car or that I ended up crying all the way home.

I fucking hate UnitedHealthcare so much. I hate myself for a) accepting this assignment in the first place because I fucking knew it was miserable and b) not getting off my fucking lazy ass to really look for a new, permanent job.

I've also been crocheting like a madwoman. I always wanted to learn how, so I stopped at Michaels one day and got a book and a crap ton of sportweight, pastel yarn. I'm now 1/3 of the way done with the first blanket for Mrs. Peppy & SvenErik's Wee-tus tm. I really like the blankie, but it's very ... not delicate, but not sturdy either. I think I'm also going to make another that's a) better and b) more suited to daily usage.

Oooh! I just found a kick ass, easy hat pattern so now I can make use of the yarn I got last year to knit my sister & brother hats. I find crocheting to be an infinitely superior craft.

Oh, hey[livejournal.com profile] clementine21! Places we need to explore include: Purple Cellar Yarns, Clickety Sticks, Creative Fibers, Depth of Field, & Three Kittens Yarn Shop.

Lord, I should really lj-cut this, but I'm not going to.

Fandom, why hast thou forsaken me?

Well, not really. I have actually been ignoring it's plaintive cries as I slog my way through original slash at Fiction Press. [livejournal.com profile] nekosmuse, I swear your challenge piece will get finished.

Eventually.

Just not by the deadline.

Because I suck.

Anyone else stupidly excited for Hawaii?

...

Come on! Michael Biehn! Ivan Sergei! Dude who played Jesse in Buffy!

I know. I suck.

Moving on.

I have a funeral to go to tomorrow. My grandma's youngest brother's wife. So my great-aunt. Bette. She really was a wonderful, creative woman. Her death wasn't unexpected since they found a malignant brain tumor in the spring but that doesn't make her passing any less painful for her family. One of my more vivid childhood memories is playing Great American Hero with her youngest boy, Chris. We'd sing the song and everything.

Note to self -

When working on budget for next couple of months, this entry:

get haircut buy manga

is not cool. Seriously. You haven't had a haircut since... April? March? And while Christine does give a damn good haircut, something needs to be done.

For real.

I was going to spend this weekend buring all the CD's I promised various people ::coughjane&neko:: but I have been wrangled into driving down to LaCrosse for yet another Oneal family gathering. Le sigh.

I mean, I love my extended family, I really do, but jeez. I feel like I just got home from the last gathering.

I wish the alternative radio station here a) had better reception and b) played more female artists. I mean, there are entire catalogues of women they could be playing instead of fucking U2. Again.

Speaking of women and music. I love Poe and could listen to Haunted on repeat all day. Oh, wait. I do.

I need to redo my website, post all the shit that I haven't posted there since the advent (for me) of LJ, and redo my LJ layout. Anybody jane want to help me out with 1 & 3?
