my rage knows no bounds

There is a disturbing trend here in la casa de carleton97 & her brother.

Every time the temperature dips below, say, freezing, our high speed internet becomes decidedly twitchy.

I don't know all the technical terms, but the connectivity light on my actual modem never goes out (the LAN thinks it's been connected for 16 days), but at least once an hour the connection drops enough for me to be unable to connect to the internet and my AIM cuts out.

I called Comcast and, of course, they were no help. "Power cycle your modem."

Duh, what's the first thing I did?

The cable is a direct connection to the modem from the outside so it's not a splitter issue. I bypassed the wireless router and plugged the modem directly into my NIC. The connection was *fine* all summer. I noticed this a couple of months ago when we had a cold snap, but then the weather was unseasonably warm for like 6 weeks, but now that winter has for real come to the Northland, I have a feeling I'm going to be developing one hell of a relationship with Comcast.
