Now the CD-ROM isn't working correctly either. I'm tempted to just pull them both out and reinstall them.

Oh dear, your upgrade is going anything but smoothly! >_< I shall probably be joining you in the land of cursing one's computer when I get round to attemptedly installing a bigger HD and more RAM soon! ^^;;
