WaT zine letter
For those of you who have received your 'formatted' stories back from Neon RainBow Press and have decided to pull said stories from the zine, below is a letter you can use to let them know.
Please feel free to customize at will. This is just a frame of reference for everyone.
To whom it may concern:
This letter is to inform you, Neon RainBow Press, that I am withdrawing my permission for you to use my fanfiction story(ies) in your upcoming Without a Trace zine publication.
I am withdrawing my story(ies) as a part of a large-scale protest to your "editing" process. While I understand the necessity of altering the formatting of any story submitted to match that of the larger publication, in many cases, the changes you made substantially altered the tone, meaning, and authorial intent of the stories. This is completely unacceptable.
While the demands of standard grammar do exert some influence on written expression, as writers of fiction we have the right to manipulate those standards and create our own unique voice. By changing sentence and paragraph structure, adding pronouns, and altering word choice you have shown both a profound lack of understanding of the constructs of fictional writing and an even more profound lack of respect for the authors and stories you wished to publish.
I do appreciate the opportunity originally offered, but as an author with an unshakeable belief in the sanctity of the written word and a desire to see her work stand on its own merit, I cannot, in good conscience, align myself Neon RainBow Press.
Sincerely,
